SUBJECT: Kingsport Police Investigating Shots Fired at Miller Village Apartments (Update: Second Suspect Arrested)

GENERAL NARRATIVE
Update: On the evening of July 13, 2021 Darius Woodbury turned himself in on the outstanding arrest warrant (charges: Aggravated Assault (3 counts) and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon) without incident at the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office. As of the time of issuance of this update, he remains incarcerated in the Sullivan County Jail in Blountville.

As this remains an active investigation, and in the interest of future prosecution, absolutely no further details can or will be released at this time.

As previously released:

Update: On the morning of July 13, 2021 Curtis Thompson turned himself in on the outstanding arrest warrant (charge: Felony Reckless Endangerment) without incident at the Kingsport Justice Center. He is currently incarcerated in the Kingsport City Jail, awaiting arraignment.

As of the time of issuance of this news release, the other suspect, Darius Woodbury, remains wanted and at large. His charges include Aggravated Assault (3 counts) and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

Update: The July 5, 2021 shots fired incident at Miller Village Apartments has been under constant investigation by the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division since the time it occurred. The findings thus far are as follows:

Shortly before midnight, two suspects, now identified as Darius Woodbury and Curtis Thompson, exchanged gunfire in the parking lot of the apartment complex. The suspects were already known to one another prior to the altercation. During the incident, Mr. Thompson sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg.

Also during the incident, a stray bullet shattered the window of an apartment leased to, and occupied by, an uninvolved person. The projectile entered the apartment, went through a television, and lodged in an interior wall. Fortunately, no innocent bystanders sustained injury.

On July 7, 2021 Detectives obtained warrants charging both suspects for their roles in the incident. Mr. Woodbury has been charged with Aggravated Assault (3 counts) and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Mr. Thompson has been charged with Felony Reckless Endangerment.

As of the time of issuance of this news release, both suspects remain wanted and at large. Both should be considered armed and dangerous.

On July 5, 2021, just before midnight, Kingsport Central Dispatch received multiple reports of shots fired at Miller Village Apartments, located in the 3800 block of Eastline Drive in Kingsport.

Kingsport Police Department Patrol Officers and Detectives responded to the scene. Based upon their preliminary findings, it is believed that two individuals exchanged gunfire in the parking lot.

This remains an open and active investigation by the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division. As such, no further details are available for release at this time. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available, but only at an appropriate point in the associated investigation.
