| GENERAL NARRATIVE | |||
| Update: The decedent in this case has been positively identified by the medical examiner as Jonathan M. Powers, 42 years of age, of Kingsport. Detectives are still awaiting delivery of the final forensic pathology report to determine his cause of death.
The associated investigation continues to be active and ongoing by the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division. As such, no further details are currently available for release. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available, but only at an appropriate point in the investigation. As previously released: On June 23, 2021 at approximately 12:00 Noon, Kingsport Police Department Patrol Officers and Detectives responded to the 1600 block of Rock Springs Road in Kingsport in reference to the discovery of human remains, believed to be that of an adult male, found in a wooded area on an abandoned rural residential property. Following a thorough on-site investigation, the decedent was sent to the East Tennessee State University James H. Quillen College of Medicine for forensic analysis by a medical examiner in an attempt to determine positive identification and establish cause of death. In the meantime, the associated investigation continues to be active and ongoing by the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division. As such, no further details are currently available for release. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available, but only at an appropriate point in the investigation. |
