| SUBJECT: | Driver Killed in Afternoon Motor Vehicle Collision | ||

| GENERAL NARRATIVE | |||
| On September 5, 2019 at approximately 4:00 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Clinchfield Street and Holston Valley Drive in Kingsport. Due to the severe nature of the crash, the K.P.D. Traffic Unit was called to the scene. Their resultant investigation revealed the following:
A black 2015 Jeep Wrangler sport utility vehicle, driven and solely occupied by Cayley A. McCaslin (26 years of age of Kingsport), was northbound on Clinchfield Street approaching the intersection with Holston Valley Drive. Meanwhile, a white 2004 Toyota Sienna minivan, driven and solely occupied by John Owen Davenport (73 years of age of Gate City), was westbound on Holston Valley Drive approaching the intersection with Clinchfield Street. Mr. Davenport failed to yield the right-of-way and pulled his Toyota into the intersection, directly into the path of the Jeep. The Jeep struck the Toyota in the driver’s side causing the Toyota to roll over and come to rest on its top. Ms. McCaslin sustained possible injuries; however, Mr. Davenport was killed in the crash. This motor vehicle collision remains under open and active investigation by the K.P.D. Traffic Unit. No additional information is available for release at this time. |
