| GENERAL NARRATIVE | |||
| As of May 22, 2019, the decedent in this investigation has been positively identified by the medical examiner as John R. Stair, 40 years of age, of Church Hill, TN. The cause and circumstances of his death remain part of an active and ongoing investigation by the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division. As such, no further details can or will be released at this time. Additional information will be released as it becomes available at the appropriate point in the investigation.

Alternatively, if an individual who is able to supply information related to this or any other case wishes not to be identified, tips can be submitted anonymously via online “Citizen Feedback” forms available at the following link: https://www.kingsporttn.gov/city-services/police-department/contact-us As previously released: On May 18, 2019 at approximately 6:15 PM, the Kingsport Police Department was alerted by a fisherman to the discovery of a deceased person in a stretch of the Holston River adjacent to the Ridgefields subdivision of Kingsport. K.P.D. Patrol Officers and Detectives responded, and with assistance from the Kingsport Fire Department and the Kingsport Life Saving Crew, the individual’s body was recovered and removed from the river. Based upon the preliminary investigation, the person appears to have been an adult male. The decedent has been sent to the E.T.S.U. Quillen College of Medicine for autopsy by the medical examiner to attempt to positively identify him and determine cause of death. This remains an active and ongoing investigation by the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division. As such, no further details can or will be released at this time. Additional information will be released as it becomes available at the appropriate point in the investigation. |
