On Saturday, March 24, 2018 at approximately 5:00 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers and other emergency first responders were dispatched to a disturbance that had resulted in a stabbing at Fox Haven Apartments #10, located at 2800 Sullivan Gardens Parkway in Kingsport.
Upon arrival, they located a 65 year old white male adult who had sustained a life threatening knife wound to the neck. The victim was immediately transported by Sullivan County EMS to an area medical facility where he underwent emergency surgery. He has since been admitted to the hospital and is listed in serious but stable condition.
The resultant investigation by the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division revealed the following:
The victim and several acquaintances were inside the apartment when an altercation took place between the victim and one of the acquaintances identified as Jeffrey A. Johnson. During the altercation, Mr. Johnson stabbed the victim in the neck with a knife.
One of the other acquaintances attempted to call 9-1-1 several times; however, each time she tried, Mr. Johnson took the phone away from her, ordered her not to call the authorities, and told her that the victim would be fine.
When she was finally able to successfully call 9-1-1, Mr. Johnson attempted to leave; however, another acquaintances was able to prevent him from doing so until police arrival.
Jeffrey A. Johnson was subsequently arrested and charged with 1) Criminal Attempt to Commit Second Degree Murder and 2) Interference with Emergency Calls to 9-1-1. He was transported to the Kingsport City Jail where he remains confined, pending arraignment, in lieu of a $50,000 bond. |
