| SUBJECT: | Northbound Interstate 81 Traffic Temporarily Delayed/Diverted Due to Motor Vehicle Collision with Cable Barrier | ||

| GENERAL NARRATIVE | |||
| On February 25, 2018 at approximately 8:45 AM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to Interstate 81 at approximately the 59 mile marker in Kingsport due to a motor vehicle collision. Their subsequent investigation determined the following:
A southbound motor vehicle sustained a tire blowout resulting in the driver losing control. The vehicle traveled through the median and the cable barrier, dragging the tangled cables behind it across the northbound travel lanes. Fortunately, no injuries were reported; however, as a result of the incident, northbound traffic is currently being temporarily delayed and/or diverted while TDOT crews respond to rectify the problem. Motorists are advised to avoid this area if at all possible and plan an alternate route so as to avoid unnecessary congestion and delays. Motorists already in the immediate area are urged to exercise caution and patience, obey all traffic instructions, and drive with a heightened sense of situational awareness. Again, this is a temporary issue that should be cleared up, allowing normal traffic patterns to resume, in a reasonable timeframe. |
