| SUBJECT: | Driver Killed in Single Vehicle Crash on East Center Street | ||

| GENERAL NARRATIVE | |||
| On January 16, 2018 at approximately 9:45 PM, Kingsport Central Dispatch was notified of a crash that had just occurred in the 1100 block of East Center Street in Kingsport. Due to the seriousness of the collision, Certified Crash Reconstructionists from both the Kingsport Police Department Patrol Division and Traffic Unit jointly investigated. Their preliminary inquiry into the crash revealed the following:
A 1991 Honda Accord 4-door sedan, driven and solely occupied by Joshua C. McAllister, was eastbound on East Center Street when suddenly and for unknown reasons the vehicle veered to the left, crossing the center turn lane and the oncoming traffic lane. The vehicle then came to an abrupt halt upon directly striking a utility pole in front of the Minute Market, located at 1108 East Center Street. The initial first responders to arrive found Mr. McAllister trapped and unresponsive inside the vehicle. Following extrication, he was immediately transported to Holston Valley Medical Center by Sullivan County E.M.S. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival at the hospital. Although wintry precipitation had begun to fall at the time of the crash, based upon facts and evidence uncovered thus far, neither weather nor roadway conditions are believed to be contributing factors in this crash. The crash itself remains under active investigation by the K.P.D. Patrol Division and Traffic Unit. |
