NEWS RELEASE
SUBJECT: K.P.D. Searching for Suspect Who Used Stolen Credit Card and Checks From Residential Burglary
DATE: September 19, 2017
CASE #: 17-021214 (Burglary)

17-023291 (Fraudulent Use of Stolen Credit Card)

17-024981 (Fraudulent Passing of Stolen Checks)

GENERAL NARRATIVE
On the morning of August 13, 2017, a homeowner on Cliffside Road in Kingsport reported a residential burglary that had occurred the night before, during which a safe was stolen. The safe contained various and assorted valuables to include guns, jewelry, her checkbook, and a significant quantity of cash and coins.

The victim’s checking account was immediately closed. However, also in the safe when it was stolen was a credit card that she rarely used and did not initially realize was missing.

On August 29, 2017, the victim received her credit card statement and found four unauthorized charges, for a total of over $2,700, made fraudulently at Home Depot between August 13 and 19, 2017.

On September 11, 2017, the victim received notification from her bank that six of her checks were passed, for a total value in excess of $1,000, at Walmart between August 16 and 20, 2017.

Further investigation by Detectives in the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division turned up surveillance video footage of a sole white male adult suspect, not only making the charges at Home Depot, but also passing the checks at Walmart.

A photo of that suspect taken from some of that footage has been included in this release. Anyone who recognizes him is asked to contact Detectives by calling 423-229-9429 or call Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111.

Alternatively, if an individual who is able to supply information related to this or any other case wishes not to be identified, tips can be submitted anonymously via online “Citizen Feedback” forms available at the following link:
