On July 13, 2017 at approximately 6:30 PM, two victims (a 14 year old white male juvenile and a 35 year old white female adult) called 9-1-1 and drove straight to the Kingsport Justice Center to report an incident that has just occurred in Borden Park, located at 901 Lamont Street in Kingsport.
The 14 year old male juvenile victim advised that he was walking in the vicinity of the park when he heard someone call his name. He turned and observed Tyrone Charles Taylor coming toward him. He was previously acquainted with Mr. Taylor and said that Mr. Taylor had made prior threats to shoot him.
In fear for his safety, the victim retreated to a bathroom in the park and locked himself inside. He said that he stayed in the bathroom for approximately an hour and called a friend (the aforementioned 35 year old white female adult victim) to come and help him.
When his friend arrived, the juvenile got into her car. Two other individuals in the park immediately warned them that Mr. Taylor was on his way back to get them. As they exited the park, they looked back to see Mr. Taylor reappear. They advised that Mr. Taylor raised his arm and fired at least 3 shots from a firearm in their direction, but the shots neither hit them nor their vehicle. No one else appeared to have been injured by the gunfire.
Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to Borden Park and located Mr. Taylor still at the scene. He was arrested, charged with 1) Aggravated Assault (2 counts) and 2) Felony Reckless Endangerment, and confined in the Kingsport City Jail. He currently remains confined in lieu of a $30,000 bond as specified by the presiding magistrate. |
