SUBJECT: Kingsport Police Release Additional Details in Fatal Interstate 81 Motorcycle Crash Investigation

GENERAL NARRATIVE
On May 9, 2017 at approximately 11:00 PM, Kingsport Central Dispatch was notified of an extremely serious motorcycle crash along southbound Interstate 81 in the City of Kingsport. Kingsport Police Patrol Officers and Crash Reconstructionists responded to the scene to investigate, with their subsequent investigation determining the following:

A black 2007 Big Dog K9 Custom Motorcycle, operated by Kenneth Carson Roller, II, was southbound on Interstate 81 at approximately the 60.6 mile marker. For unknown reasons, Mr. Roller lost control of the motorcycle resulting in an eventual impact with a guard rail. Mr. Roller was killed as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

The roadway remained open; however, traffic was diverted to the shoulder for several hours following the crash to allow for a thorough investigation and the safe and respectful removal of the decedent, his motorcycle, and any associated debris. Normal traffic patterns have since been restored. The crash itself remains under investigation by the K.P.D. Traffic Unit.
