SUBJECT: Armed Suspect Sought in Convenience Store Robbery
DATE: September 2, 2016
CASE #: 16-018802
On September 1, 2016 at approximately 9:00 PM, a white male suspect robbed the Zoomerz Gas Station and Convenience Store, located at 3717 Memorial Boulevard in Kingsport. The suspect was clad completely in black to include a mask of sorts that concealed his facial features. The sole exception were his shoes which were gray in color and unique in style, appearing to be some type of rubberized clog.

He initially approached the female clerk in the parking lot, armed with a dark colored handgun, and demanded money. He ordered her to accompany him into the store and open the register, threatening to shoot her if she did not hurry. When she opened the register, he grabbed a handful of cash and then demanded that she open the safe.

He then suddenly fled the scene with an undisclosed sum, apparently startled by the arrival of another customer. He ran around the outside of the store and was last observed running south on Stratford Road. A K.P.D. K-9 Unit attempted to track the suspect; however, that effort ultimately proved unsuccessful.

While not directly injured in the actual robbery, the clerk had to be transported by Sullivan County E.M.S. to a local medical facility for evaluation due to severe anxiety and chest pains induced by the incident.

The aforementioned events were captured by store surveillance cameras, with photos of the suspect taken from that footage included in this release. Anyone who recognizes him, or who may have any additional information related to this incident, is asked to contact Detectives in the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or call Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111.

Alternatively, if an individual who is able to supply information related to this or any other case wishes not to be identified, tips can be submitted anonymously via online “Citizen Feedback” forms available at the following link:
