SUBJECT: K.P.D. Attempting to Identify Theft Suspect Who Used Sleight of Hand to Trick Cashier
DATE: August 9, 2016
CASE #: 16-015538
On July 23, 2016 at approximately 1:15 pm, a Hispanic male suspect conned a cashier out of over $200 at Price Less Foods, located at 4320 West Stone Drive in Kingsport. The suspect initially asked the clerk for change for a total of five $100 bills with the clerk making change in $10 and $20 bills.

He then asked to exchange the $10 and $20 bills for all $5 bills. When the cashier explained that she didn’t have that many $5 bills, the suspect requested that his original $100 bills be returned. During one of the bill exchanges, the suspect used a sleight of hand trick to pocket some of the money.

It was not until after he left the store, that the cashier realized that she was missing over $200. The incident was captured on surveillance video, and photos of the suspect taken from that footage have been included in this release.

He is described as a Hispanic male with a muscular build and a heavy Hispanic accent. At the time of the incident, he was wearing blue and white plaid shorts, a dark colored shirt, and a wide brimmed beach style hat.

Anyone who recognizes him or who may have any additional information regarding this case is asked to contact Detectives in the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or call Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111.
