On June 29, 2016 at approximately 6:15 PM, Crash Investigators from the Kingsport Police Department Traffic Unit responded to a three car head-on collision on Bloomingdale Road, just east of Bloomington Drive, in Kingsport. The ensuing investigation yielded the following:
A 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis, driven by Daniel G. Michalski, was eastbound on Bloomingdale Road. A 2009 Ford Fusion, driven by Darrell D. Smith, was westbound on Bloomingdale Road approaching from the opposite direction. The Ford was immediately followed by a 2009 Honda Accord, driven by Matthew D. Gilreath.
For unknown reasons, the Mercury veered to the left across the center line into oncoming traffic. The Mercury sideswiped the Ford and then struck the Honda in a head-on impact.
All three drivers were transported to Holston Valley Medical Center by Sullivan County E.M.S. for treatment of incapacitating injuries. A section of Bloomingdale Road between Bloomington Drive and Arbutus Avenue was closed for roughly an hour and a half to allow for a thorough investigation of the crash and safe removal of the injured, their disabled vehicles, and the subsequent debris.
This crash remains under investigation by the K.P.D. Traffic Unit with the possibility of charges pending. Crash Investigators request for anyone who may have witnessed this crash who has not yet come forward to please contact them as soon as possible at 423-224-2750. |
