On June 16, 2016 at approximately 4:30 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to a head-on collision on Fort Henry Drive, approximately one-tenth of a mile south of the intersection with Moreland Drive in Kingsport. The resultant investigation revealed the following:
A 2012 Honda Odyssey, driven by Jeremiah M. Hein, and also occupied by a 3 year old child, was traveling on Fort Henry Drive in the left southbound lane, negotiating a curve.
A 2001 Ford Mustang, driven by sole-occupant, Charles E. Sorah, was traveling on Fort Henry Drive in the left northbound lane, negotiating the same curve from the opposing direction. For unknown reasons, the Mustang veered left across the double-yellow center lines and struck the minivan in a head-on impact.
An independent witness traveling behind the minivan confirmed the aforementioned sequence of events.
All three motorists involved were transported to Holston Valley Medical Center by Sullivan County E.M.S. Mr. Hein and the child were both treated for non-incapacitating injuries, while Mr. Sorah is currently undergoing treatment for serious injuries.
Fort Henry Drive traffic was detoured and/or delayed for nearly three hours due to multiple lane closures to allow for the investigation of the crash and clearing of vehicles and debris.
Crash Reconstructionists from the K.P.D. Traffic Unit were called in to assist. This collision remains under investigation with charges pending. |
