SUBJECT: Con Artist Duo Swindle Cashier out of $600 using Disputed Change Scheme
DATE: March 17, 2016
CASE #: 16-005376
On March 14, 2016 at approximately 7:00 PM, two black male con artists swindled a cashier at Wal-Mart, located at 3200 Fort Henry Drive in Kingsport. While making a purchase, one of the suspects deceptively used a disputed change scheme to trick the cashier into giving him $600 in change that he was not due. The other suspect stood watch and deliberately blocked other employees and customers from witnessing the transaction.

The pair of suspects left the store together in a dark colored sport utility vehicle. These same suspects have reportedly used this same scheme at multiple area Wal-Mart locations over the past 12 months.

A review of surveillance video corroborated the cashier’s recollection of the event. Photos of the suspects taken from that footage have been included in this release. Video clips of the suspects exiting the store have been made available for viewing on the K.P.D. YouTube channel via the links below:

Anyone who can help Detectives identify either suspect is asked to contact the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or call Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111.

Alternatively, if an individual who is able to supply information related to this or any other case wishes not to be identified, tips can be submitted anonymously via online “Citizen Feedback” forms available at the following link:
