|On March 14, 2016 at approximately 9:00 AM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers and Detectives responded to the Domtar Paper Mill, located at 100 Clinchfield Street in Kingsport, to investigate the discovery of the body of a deceased individual. Domtar Security personnel had spotted a campsite that was well-concealed among several large trees and shrubs in a landscaped area on the corner of the property nearest to the intersection of West Center Street and Clinchfield Street.
The body of a deceased adult male had been discovered laying under a tarp that had been fashioned as a shelter. Kingsport Police Detectives are reasonably certain as to the identity of the deceased man; however, positive identification is still outstanding. Detectives believe the deceased was a homeless/transient man in his early sixties. It is currently unknown how long he had been camping at this location or how long ago he died.
This death is being investigated just as any other unattended death. The precise cause of death is unknown at this time; however, thus far there has been nothing discovered to give Detectives any reason to suspect foul play. The remains have been sent to the E.T.S.U. Quillen College of Medicine Forensic Pathology Department for the purposes of autopsy and positive identification. Out of respect for the privacy of the family of the deceased, no further information will be released at this time.
