SUBJECT: Couple Attempts Felony TV Shoplifting Scam
DATE: March 8, 2016
CASE #: 16-003208
On February 16, 2016 at approximately 2:00 PM, a man and woman purchased a $700 LG Flat Screen Television from Wal-Mart, located at 3200 Fort Henry Drive in Kingsport. After making the purchase, the man loaded a second identical television onto a shopping cart and attempted to leave the store without paying for it.

When stopped and questioned by loss prevention personnel, he showed the receipt for the purchased TV; however, his shoplifting attempt was foiled when the serial number on the receipt did not match the serial number of the television in the cart.

The man eventually abandoned the attempt, claiming it was all just a misunderstanding. The couple left together with the purchased TV in a green Nissan sedan with a Tennessee Titans decal affixed to the rear window.

Photos of the male suspect, taken from surveillance video have been included in this release. Clips of the video footage have also been made available for viewing on the K.P.D. YouTube channel via the links below:

Anyone who recognizes this suspect or who may know the identity of his female accomplice is asked to contact Detectives in the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or call Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111.
