|On January 5, 2016 at approximately 8:30 AM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to a motor vehicle collision that began on East Stone Drive and ended in the parking lot of Fairway Ford, located at 2761 East Stone Drive in Kingsport. The subsequent investigation revealed the following:
An uninsured 2001 Toyota Sequoia, driven by Edward N. Gorman, was eastbound on East Stone Drive in the left lane. As Mr. Gorman merged from the left lane into the right lane, he lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road onto the right shoulder. The vehicle struck an embankment and continued into the parking lot where it crashed into six brand new Ford F-250 Pickups.
The Toyota finally came to a rest, balanced on its nose, leaning precariously against a light pole and the hood of one of the new pickup trucks. Mr. Gorman complained of possible injuries and was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center by Sullivan County E.M.S. for a precautionary medical evaluation.
During the course of the investigation, Mr. Gorman acknowledged consuming prescription medications prior to the crash. A blood sample was collected and submitted to the T.B.I. Crime Lab for analysis. A Fairway Ford representative stated that at least one of the new trucks was likely totaled. He gave a rough preliminary estimation of the damages to the trucks and other dealership property to be in excess of $100,000.
Mr. Gorman has been initially charged with Failure to Comply with Financial Responsibility (No Insurance) with additional charges pending the lab results and completion of the investigation.
