SUBJECT: Identification Assistance Requested of Smartphone Theft Suspect
DATE: December 10, 2015
CASE #: 15-026233
On December 3, 2015 at approximately 7:45 AM, an individual went to the Roadrunner Market, located at 120 West Stone Drive in Kingsport. He set his cellular telephone down on a soft drink machine while he utilized an adjacent automated teller machine (ATM). After conducting the ATM transaction, he briefly left his phone on the soft drink machine while he went to the checkout counter to make a purchase. When he returned to the soft drink machine to retrieve his phone, it was gone.

A review of surveillance video revealed footage of another individual picking up the phone, looking around, and then exiting the store. The suspect was a white male with short brown hair and a beard, and at the time of the incident he was wearing a blue sweatshirt. He left the scene in what appeared to be a newer model, dark colored, Chevrolet Cobalt sedan.

The stolen phone is an HTC One Max smartphone with a value of $600. Photographs of the suspect and his vehicle are included in this release. Anyone who recognizes him is asked to contact Detectives in the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division by calling 423-229-9429 or call Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111.

Alternatively, if an individual who is able to supply information related to this or any other case wishes not to be identified, tips can be submitted anonymously via online “Citizen Feedback” forms available at the following link:
