As previously released:
On November 4, 2015 at approximately 9:00 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers were called to First Broad Street United Methodist Church, located at 100 East Church Circle in Kingsport, in reference to a missing teenager.
Responding officers spoke with the mother of the teenager who stated that her son, Thomas Burdge, had apparently left the church on foot approximately 45 minutes earlier without her knowledge or permission. She stated that he was upset over a disciplinary issue.
Based on the initial investigation, it is believed that he did in fact run away voluntarily, so foul play is not suspected; however, due to a pre-existing medical condition and his minor age, there is reason to be concerned for his welfare.
Kingsport Fire Department personnel responded and thoroughly searched the interior of the church to no avail, while K.P.D. personnel searched the downtown area with similar results.
A bloodhound was also utilized in an attempt to locate him, but the track proved unsuccessful. Kingsport Central Dispatch sent out a mass telephone notification message to all businesses and residences within a one mile radius of Downtown Kingsport asking citizens to be on the lookout for him.
This remains an open and active investigation. Thomas Burdge is described as a 13 year old white male who is 5 feet, 1 inch in height and weighs 110 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes and wears glasses. He was last seen wearing a gray shirt, black pants, and white shoes.
Anyone who can assist K.P.D. with locating him is asked to contact Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111 immediately. Anyone who sees him is asked to attempt to maintain visual contact with him until police arrival.
