On October 30, 2015 at approximately 11:00 AM, the Kingsport Police Department was notified of human remains that had been found several hundred feet into a heavily wooded area, behind The Shoppes on East Stone Shopping Complex, located at 2637 East Stone Drive in Kingsport. The remains were found by a pair of hunters scouting for deer.

Detectives from the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division, accompanied by forensic experts from the Medical Examiner’s office, responded to the scene to investigate. Based upon their preliminary investigation, foul play was not suspected. The remains were turned over to the Medical Examiner’s office at the Quillen College of Medicine for the purposes of identification and autopsy.

On November 5, 2015, the Kingsport Police Department was officially notified by the Medical Examiner’s Office that the remains had been positively identified as belonging to Eugene Marshall, an elderly Kingsport man with Alzheimer’s Disease who had been reported missing on September 17, 2015 after he wandered away from home. The Kingsport Police Department has been actively investigating and searching for Mr. Marshall since his disappearance.

This update brings the search for Mr. Marshall to an unfortunate end. The members of the Kingsport Police Department wish to extend sincere condolences to his friends and family. While the search is over, this remains an open and active investigation, as the complete results of the autopsy may not yet be available for several more weeks.
