|On October 5, 2015 at approximately 3:00 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to a stabbing incident at Dollar General, located at 704 Lynn Garden Drive in Kingsport. Upon arrival, officers located a 39 year old white male victim who was bleeding badly from his side as a result of a severe knife wound.
The victim told the officers that as he was exiting the store, he observed a man and woman arguing in the parking lot. Completely unprovoked, the man began cursing the victim with profanity, ran up to him, and stabbed him in the side. The suspect then fled the scene in a vehicle, accompanied by the woman with whom he had been arguing. The victim was transported to a local medical facility by Sullivan County E.M.S. for treatment of serious injuries but has since been released.
Detectives from the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and have been investigating this incident since it occurred. As a result of the investigation, Jeffrey R. Hammonds was positively identified as the suspect in question, with his female associate being identified as Amber K. Jones. On October 9, 2015, Detectives obtained a warrant charging Mr. Hammonds with Aggravated Assault.
Ms. Jones was not charged in the Kingsport incident; however, Mr. Hammonds and Ms. Jones were both already wanted by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office as a result of a week-long crime spree in their jurisdiction. They have since been arrested by the Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office and are incarcerated in that jurisdiction awaiting extradition back to Tennessee.
