|This news release is being resubmitted with a name spelling correction. Her last name is correctly spelled Prater, not Prader as previously released.
Kingsport Police are searching for Betty Karen Prater after her recent indictment by the Sullivan County Grand Jury. Following her indictment, on September 14, 2015 a Criminal Court Capias was issued for her arrest on the charges of Reckless Aggravated Assault (3 counts), Felony Reckless Endangerment, and Driving Under the Influence—2nd offense. She is aware of this warrant and is actively avoiding service.
Her indictment is a result of an ongoing investigation by the K.P.D. Traffic Unit into a motor vehicle collision in which she was involved that occurred on April 7, 2015 at approximately 5:00 PM. In that crash, Ms. Prater’s vehicle crossed the center line on Bloomingdale Pike resulting in a crash with another vehicle occupied by a driver and two passengers.
At the time of the crash, Ms. Prater appeared extremely drowsy and could not explain why she was driving on the wrong side of the road, claiming that she must have blacked out. As a result of the investigation, a sample of her blood was submitted to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Lab for analysis with the results testing positive for multiple intoxicants.
A photo of Ms. Prater is included in this release. She is a 44 year old white female. She is approximately 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs roughly 150 pounds. She has brown hair and hazel eyes. Her last known address is in Gray, TN; however, she has ties to both Kingsport, TN and the State of Ohio. Anyone who knows her current whereabouts is asked to contact the K.P.D. Traffic Unit at 423-224-2750 or Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111.
