|On September 2, 2015 at approximately 10:30 AM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers and Detectives responded to a residence in the Ridgefields Subdivision in reference to a home invasion that had just occurred. The elderly male resident had been home alone when he noticed a white Toyota parked in his driveway. He initially thought that the driver was just using his driveway to turn around and thought nothing more of it.
However, when he noticed that the vehicle was still there a few minutes later, he went outside to investigate, found the vehicle unoccupied, but made a mental note of the license plate number. He walked back inside his residence where he was confronted by a man, later identified as Jason Lewis Fletcher, armed with a handgun. Mr. Fletcher forced the victim at gunpoint to lie down on the floor.
A few minutes later, Mr. Fletcher fled the scene. The victim immediately called his son who promptly called 9-1-1 to report the incident. A check of the residence revealed that two small security boxes containing a total of three handguns had been stolen from the residence. Further investigation quickly identified Mr. Fletcher as the suspect in question, with Detectives learning that he had likely cased the residence when he was there on a previous occasion to perform cleaning services.
Detectives quickly tracked him down at his girlfriend’s residence at Lee Apartments in Kingsport. The three stolen handguns were recovered after being found hidden inside the apartment. Mr. Fletcher was arrested for Aggravated Robbery and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and transported to the Kingsport City Jail where he will remain confined pending arraignment.
This case has been forwarded to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE) for further investigation with additional charges likely pending at the federal level.
