|On August 17, 2015 at approximately 7:00 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers and Traffic Crash Investigators responded to the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash that had just occurred on Lynn Garden Drive in Kingsport. Their subsequent investigation revealed the following:
A 2003 Chevrolet 3500 full-size pickup, driven by Chris S. Collins, was northbound in the 1700 block of Lynn Garden Drive. A 2003 Chevrolet Impala 4-door sedan, driven by Deanna F. Parrott, was southbound in the 1700 block of Lynn Garden Drive approaching the pickup.
According to witnesses, the pickup illegally veered from the northbound lanes into the southbound lanes and struck the Impala in a near head-on collision. Ms. Parrott was killed in the crash. Mr. Collins was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center by Sullivan County E.M.S. for treatment of incapacitating injuries.
Both alcohol and drug use by Mr. Collins are suspected. Following medical treatment, he was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence (2nd offense), Vehicular Homicide by Intoxication, and Felony Reckless Endangerment. He was incarcerated in the Kingsport City Jail where he will remain pending arraignment.
This crash remains under investigation by the K.P.D. Traffic Unit.
