Armed Man Arrested by K.P.D. after Brief Stand-Off
August 13, 2015
On August 13, 2015 at approximately 4:00 PM, a man later identified as Larry Castle called a non-emergency administrative line to Kingsport Central Dispatch and made threats to kill an individual who allegedly owed him a large sum of money. The call originated from Mr. Castle’s residence, located at 1141 East Center Street. Officers of the Kingsport Police Department’s Patrol Division were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the first responding officer was confronted by Mr. Castle who was armed with a rifle. He ordered the officer off of his property and retreated back inside the house. Additional officers promptly responded to secure the area in an effort to protect neighbors and other innocent bystanders. Following a stand-off lasting approximately twenty minutes, Mr. Castle exited the house onto the front porch.
After failing to comply with officers’ instructions, he was subdued via a successful Taser deployment and taken into custody. He was initially transported to Holston Valley Medical Center for removal of the Taser prongs; however, he remained there under temporary observation for pre-existing medical issues unrelated to this incident.
He faces a charge of Aggravated Assault with the possibility of additional charges pending. Upon his release from the hospital, he will be transported to the Kingsport City Jail where he will remain confined pending arraignment. Mr. Castle’s motive remains under investigation.
