On May 26, 2015 at approximately 10:30 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to 106 West Charlemont Avenue, Apartment #6, in Kingsport in reference to a fight between two adult males. While en route to the scene, additional information was relayed to the officers via Kingsport Central Dispatch that one of the individuals had been stabbed.
Upon arrival, the officers located several residents of the apartment building. One of these individuals, a 44 year old male, had sustained a stab wound to his chest. Detectives from the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division responded and launched an investigation into the events that led up to the stabbing.
Detectives learned that the 44 year old victim had been in an argument with a 52 year old male over a $40 debt. The argument escalated into a physical confrontation. At some point during the altercation, a 12 year old male juvenile produced a knife and stabbed the 44 year old in the chest.
The victim was transported to a local medical facility where he remains hospitalized, listed in stable condition. Detectives have charged the 12 year old suspect with aggravated assault.
Based on the juvenile age of the suspect, and the ongoing investigation into the incident, no additional information will be released at this time.
