|On May 26, 2015 at approximately 10:30 AM, Kingsport Central Dispatch was notified of an armed robbery that had just occurred at Mountain States Pharmacy, located at 1657 East Stone Drive in Kingsport. Officers from the Kingsport Police Department’s Patrol and Criminal Investigations Division immediately responded to the scene and the surrounding area to investigate and search for the suspect.
Investigators soon learned that the suspect, later identified as David Scott Henegar, entered the pharmacy, brandished a handgun, and demanded prescription medication. Pharmacy personnel complied with his demands and relinquished an undisclosed type and quantity of medication.
Mr. Henegar fled the pharmacy on foot to the nearby Roadrunner Market, located at 2000 North Eastman Road. Mr. Henegar approached the gas pumps and spoke with a female who had just finished refueling her vehicle. He initially requested a ride; however, when she refused, he carjacked her at gunpoint.
Mr. Henegar forced the woman to drive him to a location in the Highland community at which point he released her and her vehicle and fled again on foot into the surrounding neighborhood.
During the resulting manhunt for Mr. Henegar, he was spotted in the adjacent Fairacres neighborhood. After a short foot pursuit, which culminated in a successful Taser deployment, he was apprehended in the 1500 block of Belmeade Drive.
Believing he had ingested some of the stolen medication, officers transported him to Holston Valley Medical Center where he was later admitted. Mr. Henegar has been charged with:
1) Aggravated Robbery
3) Especially Aggravated Kidnapping
