|On April 23, 2015 at approximately 9:30 PM, Investigators from the Kingsport Police Department’s Vice are Narcotics Unit and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant at the home of Mary K. Sutherland, located at 1158 Dorothy Street in Kingsport. This search warrant was a result of an ongoing investigation into illegal drug sales by Ms. Sutherland.
During the search, investigators discovered 110 Oxycodone pills with an estimated street value of $3,300. They also seized nearly $1,500 which was believed to be profit from illegal drug sales. Also seized were several food stamp cards that detectives determined had been bartered to Ms. Sutherland in exchange for drugs.
Ms. Sutherland was home at the time the warrant was served and was subsequently arrested and charged with Possession of Schedule II Drugs for Resale and Maintaining a Dwelling Where Narcotics are Used, Sold, or Stored. She was processed in the Kingsport City Jail and later transferred to the Sullivan County Jail in Blountville for confinement while she awaits arraignment.
Additional evidence uncovered during the investigation has indicated that Ms. Sutherland has been using her TennCare benefits to obtain these narcotics. This matter is still under investigation with additional charges pending.
