NEWS RELEASE
SUBJECT: Shoplifting Incident at Department Store Escalates into Strong Armed Robbery
DATE: April 15, 2015
CASE #: 15-005798
GENERAL NARRATIVE
On March 25, 2015 at approximately 9:00 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to a Strong Armed Robbery that had just occurred at J.C. Penney in the Kingsport Town Center (formerly known as the Fort Henry Mall), located at 2101 Fort Henry Drive in Kingsport.

A white male suspect had entered the store and shoplifted three pairs of New Balance athletic shoes with a total value of $150. A female store manager and another female employee observed the theft occur and followed the suspect outside where another white male was waiting for him in a small gold car.

The manager attempted to get a look at the license plate of the car, but the suspect tossed the stolen shoes in the car and then bent the license plate up to conceal the number from view. While this transpired, the other employee spoke with the driver of the car who appeared to want nothing to do with the theft and willingly gave the stolen shoes back to the employee.

Seeing this, the suspect ran over to the employee, grabbed her wrist, reclaimed the stolen shoes, and shoved her against the car. The employee received various scrapes and abrasions during the assault. The suspect then got into the car with the stolen shoes, told the driver to go, and they fled the scene.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet, 4 inches in height, weighting approximately 140 pounds, and having a bald/shaved head. Several photos of the suspect, captured on surveillance video, are included in this release.
