NEWS RELEASE
SUBJECT: Suspect in Custody in CVS Robbery Investigation
DATE: March 26, 2015
CASE #: 15-005786

On March 26, 2015 at approximately 12:30 PM, Kingsport Police Detectives received information that the CVS Armed Robbery Suspect, Benjamin Darby Altizer, was traveling in a dark gray 2011 Kia Optima on Fort Henry Drive in the Colonial Heights area of Kingsport. Officers from the K.P.D. Patrol and Criminal Investigations Division responded and quickly intercepted the vehicle in question.

Officers initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle pulled into the parking lot of Ingles Grocery Market, located at 4335 Fort Henry Drive. As officers approached the vehicle, Mr. Altizer ingested what appeared to be a handful of unknown pills. He was promptly arrested on the outstanding warrant for Armed Robbery without further incident. Officers immediately transported Mr. Altizer to Holston Valley Medical Center for precautionary treatment.

As previously released:

On March 25, 2015 at approximately 5:45 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers were called to CVS Pharmacy, located at 5215 Memorial Boulevard in Kingsport, in reference to an armed robbery. K.P.D. Detectives responded as well, and the ensuing investigation revealed the following:

A white male suspect, now positively identified as Benjamin Darby Altizer, handed a note to pharmacy personnel that stated that he had a gun and would shoot them if they did not comply. The note also included a list of narcotics that he was demanding. In fear for their safety, pharmacy personnel turned over an undisclosed quantity of prescription medication. Mr. Altizer took the medication and immediately fled the scene.

A warrant has been obtained charging Mr. Altizer with Armed Robbery. A photo of Mr. Altizer is included in this release. A short video clip showing Mr. Altizer presenting the threatening note has been made available for viewing on the K.P.D. YouTube Channel via the link below:
