The Kingsport Police Department has a long standing commitment to traffic safety and enforcement. K.P.D. has a dedicated full-time Traffic Unit that is tasked solely with traffic enforcement, traffic safety education, and major crash investigation and reconstruction. The K.P.D. Patrol Division supplements their efforts while responding to numerous other calls for service.
Occasionally, area citizens will voice concerns over particular sections of roadway where traffic violations seem to be worse than others. K.P.D. always acts promptly to investigate these complaints and conduct special enforcement details accordingly.
Recently, however, in a public forum, two area residents purported that the Kingsport Police Department was not conducting any traffic enforcement whatsoever on Stone Drive. One of these individuals claimed to have only seen two police cruisers on Stone Drive in the past two years.
In response to these allegations, K.P.D. wishes to assert that local traffic enforcement data would indicate otherwise. Since January 1, 2015 the Kingsport Police Department has issued over 1,300 traffic citations on Stone Drive alone, and 222 of these citations were issued single handedly by the supervisor of the K.P.D. Traffic Unit.
The bottom line is that traffic enforcement is alive and well in the Model City. All motorists are encouraged to obey all traffic laws all of the time. Not only is it the law, but it might just keep you from becoming the next traffic statistic. |
