NEWS RELEASE
SUBJECT: Kingsport Police Arrest Suspect in Early Morning Convenience Store Robbery
DATE: March 15, 2014
GENERAL NARRATIVE
On March 15, 2014 at approximately 2:00 AM, a white male suspect dressed in blue jeans and a black and gray button up shirt entered the Sunoco Convenience Store, located at 4001 Memorial Boulevard in Kingsport. The suspect had a blue blanket with cartoon character print draped over his head to conceal his identity.

The suspect shoved the clerk into the counter, began yelling and cursing the clerk with profanity, and demanded money. In fear of further assault, the clerk complied and handed over an unspecified amount of cash from the register. The suspect then fled the scene in a white 4-door sedan traveling westbound on Memorial Boulevard.

Kingsport Police Patrol Officers and Detectives responded to the scene. In short order, Anthony G. Davidson was developed as a suspect. Officers responded to Mr. Davidson’s nearby residence on Rustic Way just in time to see him leave in a white 4-door Oldsmobile sedan.

Officers followed the vehicle from Rustic Way onto Harbor Chapel Road and witnessed it run the red light as it turned west on Memorial Boulevard. When officers initiated a traffic stop, the vehicle stopped briefly at the intersection with Beverly Hill Street; however, as the officer approached the vehicle on foot, Mr. Davidson sped off again.

Mr. Davidson eventually stopped a second time in the parking lot of Bishop Auto Sales, located at 3921 Memorial Boulevard, where he was taken into custody without further incident. A search of his vehicle yielded one Phentermine Hydrochloride pill (a prescription appetite suppressant), a wooden pipe with burnt marijuana residue, and two spoons with white powder residue.

A subsequent search of Mr. Davidson’s apartment netted the aforementioned blue blanket with cartoon character print and the black and gray button up shirt worn in the robbery. The stolen money has not yet been recovered.

Mr. Davidson was charged with Robbery, Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device, Evading Arrest, Simple Possession/Casual Exchange, and Possession of Unlawful Drug Paraphernalia. He was transported to the Kingsport City Jail where he is being held on a $15,000 bond pending his formal arraignment at 9:00 AM on Monday, March 17, 2014.
