General Narrative

Two Bristol men have been arrested on numerous drug charges after a midnight traffic stop for a light law violation.

On February 13, 2014 at approximately 12:10 AM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officer Joseph Moody observed a red 1993 Toyota Tacoma, with no headlights on, traveling south in the 3200 block of Fort Henry Drive. The vehicle pulled into Murphy Express, located at 3100 Fort Henry Drive. Officer Moody pulled into Murphy Express as well to speak with the driver about the light law violation.

The pickup was driven by Wesley Thomas Vittatoe and occupied by one passenger, Anthony Keith Robinette. Mr. Vittatoe claimed he did not have his driver’s license with him, when in reality his license was revoked. While Officer Moody was speaking with Mr. Vittatoe, Mr. Robinette repeatedly stepped out of the vehicle despite being clearly instructed to stay seated. Officer Moody observed both individuals to be acting extremely nervous.

Officer Moody, assisted by Officer Chris Jones, conducted a “pat down” of Mr. Robinette for weapons. Mr. Robinette clinched his fist, refusing to open it. He then threw down a plastic baggie containing crack cocaine onto the ground. A further search of Mr. Robinette revealed another baggie containing prescription medication, some empty baggies, a set of digital scales, and a pipe.

A search of Mr. Vittatoe netted a baggie of marijuana and prescription pills wrapped in plastic. Additional Marijuana was found in the glove compartment of the vehicle.

Further investigation revealed that the license plate displayed on the truck was not registered to the vehicle, nor was Mr. Vittatoe able to provide proof of insurance on the vehicle.

Both individuals were arrested and transported to the Kingsport City Jail.

Mr. Robinette was charged with:

1) Possession of a Schedule II Drug (Crack Cocaine)

2) Possession of a Schedule IV Drug for Resale (Prescription Medication)

3) Possession of a Schedule VI Drug (Marijuana)

4) Possession of Unlawful Drug Paraphernalia (Pipe, Plastic Baggies, Digital Scale)

5) Resisting Arrest

Mr. Vittatoe was charged with:

1) Possession of a Schedule II Drug (Crack Cocaine)

2) Possession of a Schedule VI Drug for Resale (Marijuana)

3) Driving on a Revoked License

4) Violation of Registration

5) Violation of Light Law

6) Violation of Financial Responsibility Law (No Insurance)
