General Narrative

K.P.D. Detectives are seeking assistance in identifying a suspect in a credit card fraud/iPad scam.

On January 14, 2014 at approximately 4:20 PM, a black female suspect went to Best Buy, located at 2716 East Stone Drive in Kingsport. The suspect told the customer service representative that she had purchased an Apple iPad on-line and would like to pick it up.

The suspect produced a New York State Driver’s License, identifying her as Cynthia Maria Kalisha Williams, as well as a Chase Travel Visa credit card that she had allegedly used to make the on-line purchase. When the clerk attempted to verify the validity of the credit card, the suspect fled the scene in a late model white four door sedan.

Further investigation revealed that both the driver’s license and the credit card were counterfeit. Detectives have since learned that a virtually identical scam occurred at Best Buy in Johnson City, Tennessee that is being investigated by the Johnson City Police Department.

A photo of the suspect is included in this release. Detectives are asking for anyone who recognizes this individual or who may have any additional information relating to this scam, to contact the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111.
