General Narrative

K.P.D. received a report of an individual with a gun; however, so far the incident appears to be unfounded.

On December 13, 2013 at approximately 12:53 AM, the Kingsport Police Department received a report of an individual with a gun in the vicinity of Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive at South Wilcox Drive in Kingsport. The initial report came from a female caller via cellular telephone and was originally received by Sullivan County Dispatch, who then relayed the information to Kingsport Central Dispatch. The female claimed that someone had a gun, and they were trying to get on top of her vehicle.

Multiple Kingsport Police Patrol Officers promptly responded and checked the immediate and surrounding areas. Due to the close proximity of this location to the adjacent Eastman Chemical Company, K.P.D. also teamed with Eastman Security and Fire Department personnel to check vehicles and buildings on Eastman property. All personnel working on Eastman property at the time were checked and found to be safe.

Responding officers believe they have identified the female caller and checked several addresses associated with her; however, she has yet to be located. Her identity will not be released at this time. None of the Eastman employees reported hearing gunshots or witnessing anything out of the ordinary.

Ultimately, nothing was found to substantiate the report. This incident is still under investigation to determine if there is any validity to the call; however, at this time it appears to be unfounded.

Anyone who has any information to help investigators with this case is asked to contact the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111.
