On 11/30/2013 at 4:18 pm officers with the Kingsport Police Department responded to a motor vehicle collision with injuries. Due to the extent of the injuries to Kingsport Police Department Traffic Unit was notified to investigate the collision. The investigation revealed a 1989 GMC Jimmy had been traveling eastbound on Echo Avenue. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Jimmy pulled into the path of a 2009 Pontiac G6 that was traveling southbound on Lynn Garden Drive. The GMC Jimmy was struck in the driver side door and the driver suffered life threatening injuries. He was transported to Holston Valley Hospital by Sullivan County EMS where he is listed in critical condition. The driver is 17 years of age therefore the Police Department will not be releasing his name at this time. Elesha Byrd, the driver of the Pontiac G6 also suffered injuries in the crash and was transported by Sullivan County EMS to Holston Valley Hospital. She is listed in stable condition. Based on the preliminary investigation, alcohol or speed do not appear to be factors in this collision. The investigation is ongoing by the Traffic Division.
