A subsequent investigation by the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division revealed the following:

The suspect, Michael D. Ford II, went to this residence and asked the victim, Carolyn Morris, to borrow some money for gas. Mr. Ford and Ms. Morris were acquaintances, so she invited him in and gave him a small amount of money.

Mr. Ford became enraged by the small amount and demanded that Ms. Morris give him all of her money. Ms. Morris attempted to leave the residence; however, Mr. Ford closed the door and prevented her exit. When Ms. Morris attempted to escape through the rear of the house via the kitchen, Mr. Ford produced a knife and stabbed her several times in the neck and arm. Ms. Morris suffered from multiple lacerations and was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center Emergency Room for treatment.
